Dan Benjamin - Regarding The Personal Web
A very insightful essay into the changes that Web 2.0 trends, summed up here as the “personal web,” have meant for thoughtful writing, and content creation as a whole, on the web.
I think Benjamin strikes the right balance between a celebration and a lament: these new applications are brilliant for their ease of use and relatively frictionless integration, but being turned on to so many different things in so many different places can sap creative energy. On the other hand, having fallen out of the life of creating my own content in favor of selling my time to others over the last few years, the persistent presence of all of these creative and independent people has reinvigorated my own entrepreneurial and creative energies. To this point, I’ve been spending most of my time soaking it all in, but hopefully my current efforts to flip the switch and start putting some things back out there will be productive.
